They did it Cyclists complete the 200 miles Shore-2-Sherwood 24 hour challenge
Cycling 200 miles in 24 hours while climbing over 7,000 feet was never going to be easy but throw in a torrential rain and hail storm over the Yorkshire Moors,a 12mph head wind throughout the entire ride and a puncture while crossing the Humber Bridge and you get a better idea of the challenge faced by the five Rotarian cyclists who were riding to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Organised by the Rortary Club of Sherwood Forest the ride was held over the weekend of the 20th and 21st May 2017. The ride started from Robin Hoods Bay and as preparations were being made the riders were visited by members of the Rotary Club of Whitby & District who wished them a safe journey. A donation of £50 was made to their cause.
It was great credit to all that they finished the ride at 3-30pm on the Sunday at the South Forest Leisure Centre,Nottingham, tired and mostly intact, save for a number of aches and pains. A large crowd was there to welcome them home.
Rotarian Laura Harmer who had spent nine months organising the ride3,and was one of the five riders taking part said ' I would like to thank all those that took part, everyone who turned out in support and all those who have made a donation to the cause. It is hoped that over £3000 will have been raised.'
