Paul Tebay

Kirkcudbright Rotary – incoming Club President 2017-2018

PAUL TEBAY

I was born in 1950 and educated until the age of seventeen in Sheffield. In 1968 I studied at Manchester University where in 1971 I achieved a degree in American Studies. I then went on to Loughborough University where I qualified as a teacher of Physical Education in 1972.

From January 1974 I taught at Westfield Comprehensive School in Yeovil, Somerset for five years before becoming Head of PE at King Edward VII School in Kings Lynn in 1979. During this time I qualified as a Staff Coach for the English Cricket Board. Cricket has always been a passion in my life. In 1980 was awarded an education bursary to visit the US for 6 weeks, staying in Washington DC & Pennsylvania.

In 2000 my school became a Specialist Sports College and I was appointed Director of Sport before becoming Deputy Head with responsibility for Sport and Community at the school. During this time I led several cricket tours to Barbados and South Africa. Also, from then onwards, I was regularly seconded to worked for the Youth Sports Trust and the British Council working in China, in India, in Kurdistan and in Jordan teaching trainee PE teachers to teach leadership through sport.

I retired from teaching in 2009 and then I moved with my wife Mary to Kirkcudbright. I joined Kirkcudbright Rotary Club in November 2012 and became Youth Service Convenor in July 2013, a position that I have held until the present day.
