Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 29th June 2018.
President Stewart Wilson opened the meeting by thanking conveners and members for all their support during his presidential year. He passed the role of president onto Sandy Farquharson, presenting him with the presidential chain of office, and Sandy in turn presented VP Ranald Ross Watt with his badge of office. Sandy paid tribute to Stewart for all his work in what has been a very successful year of office. Our new president Sandy Farquharson has been involved in Rotary for nearly 40 years, following his father into the Rotary club of Dundee as well as being secretary of the Stirling club for some years. During this time Rotary, like many organizations has changed in about every way, but has adapted well. Our dress and attendance rules have changed, and we now have the benefit of lady members, but the central importance of service above self remains. At a practical level we will move our visitor's host table into a more prominent place, making it easier for members and visitors to make contact as they arrive. Council meetings will take place about every three months unless urgent business needs attention, and we will continue to have fellowship meetings monthly with no speaker allowing members to raise topics informally. Conveners must meet their members regularly to discuss projects. Stewart's year in office and work of existing conveners has left us in a good position financially, and we will have several new members in the next month or two. Involving members in fund raising is important but making contact with the needs of our community remains the basis of Rotary.
Next meeting 6/7/18 will be a fellowship meeting Visitor's host Jane Wilson.
