Sponsoring Childrens' Education in Bangladesh
Rotarians feel that helping children to gain a good education is one of the best methods of achieving a lasting benefit to countries where funds are limited locally.
For several years we have sponsored 2 children at the Choudhury Academy from the Rotary Club funds - sponsorship for 2 costs less than £100 per year.
The Azad Choudhury opened its doors to the children of this region in January 2008 and now it is teaching 650 pupils. The school offers Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary education with pupils gaining qualifications to GCSE standard.
The Academy aims to provide an education which will lead and direct students to universities and greater opportunities in the future. As the number of students increase, the Azad Choudhury Academy's short term goal is to go beyond a GCSE equivalent to an A- Level/NVQ Level education.
The Azad Choudhury Academy is situated 16km east of Sylhet City in Ramda Bazar, Beani Bazar District. It was founded to provide an excellent education to some of the poorest children in the world.
Schools and colleges in rural Bangladesh tend to get neglected with very little support. This tends to lead to an education which doesn't really improve the student's prospects in life.
At the ACA we strive to provide the highest standard of education in a safe, clean and productive environment. The quality of the teaching and the infrastructure available must be of a high quality to enable students to work hard and aspire to great achievements and bright futures.
