First meeting for new Club President Peter Spalding

Tue, Jul 4th 2017 at 1:00 pm -

At his first meeting as President, Peter Spalding introduces David Rose, CEO of the Croydon Hearing Resource Centre, Peter's chosen charity for 2017-2018.

For over 30 years the Croydon Hearing Resource Centre (CHRC) has been providing advice, information and practical help and support to residents of Croydon with any type of hearing loss.

The aim of CHRC is to continue to offer on-going practical and emotional support to clients and their families with the hope that these positive services will restore their self-confidence and enable them to return to live as normal a life as possible.

David Rose has been an outstanding CEO of the Croydon Hearing Resource Centre and in recent years has managed to maintain a very high level of quality service for local people with severe hearing difficulties in and around Croydon, despite swingeing cuts in grant funding. He currently co-ordinates a group of leading local charities trying, with the active support of local Rotarians, to secure the vacant SEGAS House as their "hub location" in the town centre.

The Borough of Croydon is very supportive of its residents with any type of hearing impairment. To obtain equipment, supplied free of charge an assessment is necessary to determine which equipment would be of help.

To assist CHRC in diagnosing the correct level of hearing loss, they require a Tympanometer. This much-needed instrument is used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal.

Each Tympanometer costs around £9,000 and Rotary Club of Croydon members will focus their energies on raising funds towards the cost of this important instrument.
