We have been extremely fortunate with the weather in recent years, and were anxious not to overstate it and jinx the event. Fortunately, we managed another dry day despite the early sun disappearing and clouds darkening at times. With one team pulling out on the day we still had 100 players in 25 teams keen to have a great day on the magnificent Manor Course at Bramshaw.

I cannot stress enough the value of members and sponsors contributions in making this event such a financial success. In particular Bramshaw Golf Club for the concessionary use of the golf course. Thank you to Meacher’s Logistics for their continued sponsorship, and fielding 4 teams. A really special mention to Nigel’s son Stuart, owner of Northwood’s Southampton & Salisbury, who once again has generously sponsored 2 teams. He has also donating a GPS watch and his holiday home in the Cotswold Lakes as auction items. Our old friend and longtime sponsor Nik Nikandrou again fielded a team and also donated his holiday home in Cyprus in the auction. Mention must go to John Thomson who obtained free meal vouchers from about 10 local restaurants and pubs as well as significant contribution from Fullers Brewery. His efforts exceeded £700 of sponsorship. I am amazed by the support we receive from family and friends to help in our fundraising activities.

Thanks to the support of members and sponsors we were able to put on a great day which received numerous compliments from the competitors, especially the Raffle and Team prizes. The scoring was close and the top 8 teams were within 10 shots of the winner. It was great to see so many familiar faces who continue to support us, and to welcome new ones who very willingly help in our fundraising. This year we introduced 3 new additional competitions for the players, a “Chipping competition”, a “Superdraw “in addition to the Raffle, and a “Man or Woman of the Team” which involved each team picking a member, who had a less than ideal round. Funny comments were encouraged and it led to some humorous answers. It definitely was a winner and we will develop it further next year.

The winning Team was another branch of Northwood’s from Warminster. Led by Martin Bradbury with Johnny Rowe, Bob Burt and Barney McGrellis.

We would like to thank President Tim for announcing the teams on the opening tee. It was a great opportunity for him to meet the players and mention his charities.

Others made a great contribution, including Sam Turner who supervised the refreshments with Sandie Nikandrou on the course. Caroline Brace, John Bloomfield and later, Shirley & Clive Rutland  who ran a very successful competition on the 13th hole.  Fred Helyer, John Kernan,  Arthur & Doreen who ran the popular putting, and the new Chipping Competition.  John Robinson assisted Ann on Reception and sold the raffle tickets, Ray Dawes took photos at the start of the day and later at prize giving. John Thompson & Kevin Stratford helped with various tasks early in the day.

We would like to give a huge thank you to our wives. To Ann Calvert who every year has dealt with the registration and marking of players cards. To Barbara Clayton for the administration before the event. To Sally for the display of prizes, and with her sister Donna in the Pimm’s Tent, kindly erected by Jim Knight.

Thank you to Peter Clayton, who laisse’s with Sponsors and Team entrants. Lastly a thank you to Nigel who works tirelessly in obtaining concessionary golf vouchers for the winning teams, organising the catering and making sure nothing is overlooked on the day. After a 14 hour day we all went home tired but delighted that the once again the day had gone very well. Proceeds of the event will be announced later."
