Andrew Davies Vocational

This was an excellent evening enjoyed by all. This was our apprentice Presidents opportunity to impress us all with his witty repartee – did he succeed?

Then we had a delightful introduction from Jerry, Andy’s friend, getting up from his sick bed especially. It appears that his  main role in Andy’s life is vodka tasting.

Then the vocational was delivered very professionally by Andy.

It was clear he would be an engineer when he dismantled his fathers new radio only to fail to get it back in working order. From school he worked for a period as a telephone engineer but outside work in the cold was not his forte and so to night school and Liverpool’s John Moore's University.

A career with Indramet servicing complicated engineering products at such exotic locations as Dagenham or the Falls Road and moving to Gloucester.

An urge to take on challenges led to the enthusiasm to develop a camera to out accelerate Linford Christie. The challenge was to develop a camera on a track that could follow the athlete over the 100metres at the Olympics for the BBC. This complex project was of course achieved! - and has since been used for multiple sports including the bob sleigh. He is now moving on and is hoping to cover the Dragon Boats.

He is married to Gunia, of Polish heritage and they have a boy and a girl with his daughter planning to marry this year.

Andy came over as a total enthusiast, very positive about all he does especially if cars or motorbikes are involved and will undoubtedly prove popular and we wish he and Gunia all the best in our Club

Thank you Andy

Bob Paterson
