Dragon Boat Racing 2018

Thank you to all those who took part in our 2018 Dragon Boat racing and helped us to raise money for local good causes.

Doncaster Tourism and the Rotary Club of St George’s Dragon Boat Challenge took place on 7th July 2018 at Lakeside, Doncaster.

2018 was the ninth year of this event which helps raise funds for local charities and good causes supported by the  Rotary Club of Doncaster St George’s.

Dragon Boat Racing caters for all adult ages in one crew, male and female, mixed abilities and people with disabilities. It requires no previous experience and above all is great fun.  Each team consists of 10 paddlers and 1 drummer, competing in 30 foot Dragon Boats.

The racing event was run by Gable events who are the country’s leading specialist organiser of this type of event

Each team had 3 races over a 250 metre course with the fastest timed 9 teams going through to the semi-final races and the 3 fastest qualifying battling it out in the final race to be crowned the Dragon Boat Challenge Champions of 2018.

The event was covered by a professional Race Commentator and was run to very strict rules with accurate electronic timing.

The winners received a trophy along with winner’s medals, and free entry in to the next year event, with the second and third teams also receiving medals.

As part of the day’s events there was a fun fair, craft and charity stalls, a range of food and drink, providing for a fun and entertaining day for competitors and spectators, which was free to attend.

Teams payed an entry fee of £350 (Inclusive of Vat) per team and agreed to raise a minimum of £30 per team member for charity. ALL the money raised will be passed to The Rotary Club of Doncaster St Georges, of which 70% will be returned to the Team Captain for presentation to their chosen Charity.

The entry fee was used solely to pay the associated costs of Gable Events to run and manage this event.

If you are interested in entering a team for the 2019 event we will be posting details about how to enter a team shortly.
