Reports by committee chairmen

A call on all members to get behind a wide-ranging raft of planned fundraising charity events in the coming six months was made at a business and fellowship meeting at Faenol Fawr. Announcing dates for two collections to be mounted at the Asda superstore on June 2 and August 4, senior vice-president Keith Roberts also confirmed that another popular Race Night evening would be staged at Trefnant Village Hall on Saturday March 25. “We need to make the most of these opportunities to rebuild our charitable funds so that we are in a strong position to continue to support the numerous worthy causes and local community activities as generously as we can,” he stressed. “The potential is there to achieve really successful outcomes but it will require the involvement of all members to get behind the club in whatever capacity they can best assist and so enable us to fully respond.” President Rod Brocklehurst welcomed the recent decision to distribute various sums following the resounding success of the joint Christmas grotto organized by St Asaph club at the Kinmel Bay Garden Centre which raised over £2,300. This will include a significant donation towards the President’s own nominated charity during his year in office, Hope and Homes. He also gave notice of his planned charity walk to the summit of Snowdon later this year, again in aid of Hope and Homes, for which he would be looking for as much sponsorship as possible. Meanwhile, the meeting was told by Community Service chairman Hari Hughes that his committee would again be organising the club’s long-running Elderly Persons mystery coach outing and tea in June, in addition to continuing to provide a week’s free holiday for needy senior citizens. Moves to cement ties with local schools and youth organisations through various projects were also under active consideration reported Young Generations chairman Gareth Davies, to build on the recent acclaimed success of the Youth Speaks Competition held at the Rhyl College campus.
