Stroke Awareness Day

Gentlemen,

Gratitude's and results of the Club's Stroke Awareness Day  :  29th April 2017  :  (Bedford Town Centre).

Gratitude's :

This year's Stroke Awareness Day, (Free Blood Pressure Tests), went very well, indeed.  The best day we have had since we started this exercise, some 18 years ago.  This was made possible, in no short form, by :

Martin Stonecliffe's trusty wagon in transporting all our stuff to and from the site.  Mike Salsbury's continued storage of said stuff --- which is considerable. Much appreciations ... thank you !  The Club is also very much appreciative to the three doughty nurses, from the Howard Stroke Unit, who gave-up their Saturday to participate in the event.  And participate they most certainly did.  Not only did these ladies take the BP tests, but they went out into the "field" and encouraged the general public to take a test.  They all worked a hard double shift.
Appreciations also go to Drs. Bill Riding, David Monks and Bob Main; who were kept busy, throughout.  Our Club members, (Charlie Codders, Mike Lennox, David Carrington, Les Knowles, Richard Gage, Martin Furlong, Mike Salsbury, Martin Stonecliffe, Paul Hoare,  David Fletcher),  were also  supported by  several members from the Bedford Club.  But an interesting "turn of approach" was invented by Charlie Codders.  When one of the "Free Blood Pressure" signs fell off the gazebo, Charlie took to carrying this with him.  The public saw a "FREE"  sign ... and like moths to a candle, took to the gazebo.  A great idea and worth using in the years to come !!   I must also thank Lisa, (the ice cream lady) who "donated" several cups of coffee and donuts to the team.

Results  :

The Total of BP Tests were :   497    of which  29 were referred.

This is the best ever day since we started.

The Club's total, over the years, is now over 4,500.

Have a nice day ... George Carmichael
