One of the biggest environmental problems facing the world is de-forestation and the U.K. is suffering more than most countries as it’s land mass only has a 12% tree coverage c.f. Europe which has on average 48%. Subsequently, the U.K. is the third largest net importer of timber in the world. Jim went on to explain how the Woodland Trust is taking a holistic approach to re-forestation using, in some cases, animals and birds to re-seed areas denuded of trees. In an expansive talk on the regeneration of Scottish forests, Jim proffered the idea that (quote ) “ every child should plant a tree before they leave school “ ( ….well that knocks ‘ Neighbours’ on the head ! ). Good informative talk with vote of thanks given by Trevor Rae
