Celebrating the festive season with homemade Christmas food, the party included performances by the Music and Performing Arts Departments, and a personal appearance by Santa Claus.

Residents of local care homes and members of the senior citizen’s community groups, including Horwich Resource Centre, the Widows Club and the Luncheon Club from St. John’s Methodist Church were invited to attend.  Local council members also attended. The event was made possible with the kind support of Horwich Rotary Club, who donated funds to enable us to host the event. The Christmas party has run for a number of years and has been a great success in bringing members of the community into school to foster excellent links across the generations.

Students took an active part in the hosting of the event, preparing and serving food, decorating the hall, and providing drama and musical performances.  Sing-a-long carols were performed for the guests so that they could join in and they were each given a gift donated by staff, hand delivered by Santa Claus.

Students from Rivington and Blackrod High School and Sixth Form have been involved in a host of festive community events as the brass band played at the Horwich Christmas Lights switch on and the lighting of the Christmas tree in Blackrod. Staff and students took part in a Christmas carol service at Holy Trinity Church, Horwich and the school held their musical concert in November.

Mr Roach, Headteacher said, “It has been a pleasure to host the Christmas Party.  It provides an excellent opportunity for our school to reach out to our local community and we thoroughly enjoy having all of our guests come into school. We are very proud of our students who have worked to make this event and others a success and our staff who have supported them.  Thank you to Horwich Rotary Club for helping us by funding this event, we are extremely thankful to them.”
