Club Meeting - John McCormick

Tue, May 30th 2017 at 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

John McCormick spoke about the future of transport by car, and president Bill Jones proposed the vote of thanks.

President Bill Jones welcomed ten other members, and Derek Hall reported that so far 121 tickets had been sold for next Tuesday's D-Day Anniversary Concert in the Victoria Hall. Members were urged to maximise ticket sales in the week ahead.

Adam Muggoch reported that the Cardross Primary School team, who won the Helensburgh round, did well at the District 1230 Primary 7 Quiz final, but were not placed.

The speaker was John McCormick on the topic of cars. He noted that the first petrol car appeared in 1885 and the first diesel car twelve years later, and today in the U.K. 53% of cars are petrol and 46% diesel. Some 27% of households have two or more cars.

He moved on to talk about hybrid, electric, hydrogen economy and driverless cars, and made the case that none of them had a bright future and drivers should stick to petrol. Or buy a bike! Bill Jones proposed the vote of thanks.

The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature was won by Donald Fullarton.
