Lucy Bowie.

Presidemt Bill Jones welcomed eleven other members. Youth Service convener Adam Muggoch announced that Lucy Bowie of St Joseph's Primary School, winner of the junior section of the Helensburgh Young Writer competition, had won the District 1230 final and her work would now go to the national final.

President Bill went on to win the both the weekly raffle for a whisky miniature and the monthly raffle, this time for a bottle of Speyburn 10 year-old single malt whisky.

In a board meeting which followed and was attended by all twelve members present, Bill reported on the conclusions of the working group considering the possible merger of the Helensburgh and Helensburgh Garelochside clubs.

The group members were unanimous in wanting to proceed with merging the clubs, with a target date of July 1. The new club would be called Helensburgh and Lomond Rotary Club, would meet in the Rosslea Hall Hotel, Rhu, on Tuesday evenings at 6.30 for 7pm for a two course meal and coffee at £10 per head, and would have the same committee set up as at present.

The first president would be either Gordon Burgess or John McPherson, the junior vice-president would be Mike Jane, and the treasurer Colin Shannon. Asked if he would be secretary, Donald Fullarton declined.

Douglas Dow proposed that District 1230 be consulted at this stage, and it was agreed that a Special General Meeting should follow next Tuesday's lunch with a view to reaching a decision on the working group proposals.

Bill was asked by Adam Muggoch which was the most popular choice for time and day of meeting, and he replied that a Tuesday lunchtime was much the most popular.
