Raffle: Derek Clark.

Reception: David Batty / Norman Watson

On Thursday 9th March President Graham Leith welcomed speaker Anna Robinson of The Yard to the Rotary Club of South Queensferry. The Yard is a charity which creates safe  havens of adventure, play, fun and friendship for disabled children and their families in the east of Scotland. Founded in 1986, The Yard first provided facilities Edinburgh. It has now expanded to Dundee and Kirkcaldy and plans to extend its activities to other towns and cities. Youngsters and their families can visit for a day at weekends and enjoy numerous stimulating activities plus the sense of belonging, community and support The Yard offers. It is also an important lifeline for carers, who can come together to share experiences and advice.

Along with Age Scotland (the largest charity in Scotland dedicated to supporting people in later life), The Yard is one of the adopted charities in this year's Rotary Forth Bridge Abseil. On Sunday 28th May, courtesy of Network Rail and Balfour Beatty, the Rotary Club of South Queensferry offers a high-level adventure under the  direction of expert instructors. Participants abseil from the world-famous Forth Rail Bridge, raising a minimum of £145 each for charity. To find out more and register online visit  here
