Youth Leadership Award

Submitted to C & B News for consideration

This is Jema (the one on the right of course). And what’s special about Jema? Well, lots of things but here she features as the latest local youngster to have participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme (RYLA).She received the award certificate from Rotarian Ian Kerr (he’s the one on the left).
The RYLA scheme offers selected youngsters aged 15-17 a week at Ardeonaig overlooking Loch Tay and amid the surrounding hills. This is a residential week designed to develop team-work, communication and leadership skills as well as personal awareness and confidence, through outward-bound style activities and group discussion.
And what did Jema think of it? “Great! I was very nervous setting out on a coach with a group of girls I didn’t know. I came back with a group of new friends – and with the confidence to come and speak about my experience and express my thanks to a meeting of the Currie Balerno Rotary Club who had sponsored me on this course. I’d recommend RYLA to everyone.”
Rotary organises two courses each year - one week for boys and one for girls – and the Currie Balerno Club is ready to sponsor a candidate for each in 2017. Applications are invited via schools, colleges and youth organisations between now and March 2017. Visit our web site at Currie Balerno and clic the 'contact us' button on the Home page for Rotarian Ian Kerr who can give more details.
