Langley and Iver Rotary club has members from all walks of life, beliefs and religions and during one of our regular meetings we asked one of our members born in India to talk to us about Diwali. Once explained it was decided we wanted to join our Asian friends in the celebration.
Raj Aulack agreed to organise a joint event between Rotary and the local Asian community. What a fantastic night it was, music, dancing, great food and a talk from the leader of the Slough Hindu Temple about Diwali.
With a mix of Indian and western music the DJ kept the 85 plus guests on their toes. The live Asian group and drummers entertained, the Indian dancers in their beautiful coloured dresses performed a traditional dance and then invited guests to join them.
Raj and John Rees were called up and thanked with a rapturous round of applause and a request to repeat the event next year.
A wonderful evening everyone one had fun, learnt a lot about Diwali and the raffle raised money for charity.
Rotary helping others with the help of our Asian friends in the Langley and Iver Communities. Nothing better!
