North Wales oldest Rotary Club has set itself a continuingly vigorous and challenging programme of diverse activities with the ambitious aim of making the year ahead something special. Already leading the durable Rhyl club confidently into its 91st year having set the upbeat rejuvenating template, energetic President Rod Brocklehurst will be handing over the reins to his 2017 successor Keith Roberts in what will be his second spell in the Presidential chair. The focused Senior Vice-President was unanimously endorsed as President-elect at a special general meeting at Faenol Fawr, with John Hickerton, President in 2004, succeeding him in the number two role. Re-elected as club secretary to retain his heavy dual capacity as District 1180 Secretary, was industrious linchpin Gordon Marshall with key figure John Williams also by unanimous acclaim, continuing as treasurer. In addition to their co-operative involvement with St Asaph club in their special weekend Father Christmas event at Kinmel Bay Garden Centre, having manned a charitable collection at Asda later this month, Rhyl members can look forward to a wide variety of trips, guest speakers, open events, social and educational visits as well as strengthening ties with neighbouring Abergele and St Asaph clubs. President-elect Keith said he was in the throes of drawing up a list of speakers, both external and internal, for the scheduled twice-monthly meetings while an attractive array of appealing social events was already being compiled by imaginative Vocational committee chairman Mike Howarth. Meanwhile, the next meeting at Faenol Fawr will be on Tuesday November 22 with a visiting guest speaker, which will again be open to partners and guests, while the draw to decide Rhyl’s next opponents in the second round of the Rotary District quiz is eagerly awaited.
