Club meeting with guest speakers

The emphasis was on youth at last week's meeting of the Rotary Club when President Jim Walker welcomed three young ladies who had been supported by the club.  Klaudia Salamonska, a High School Senior pupil attended Rotary's Youth Leadership Camp at Ardeonaig, Perthshire.  Delivering an illustrated talk she explained the week's comprehensive activities which included raft building and sailing, rope climbing and abseiling, mountain climbing and canoe river trip.  The course, all girls from all over Scotland, was very enjoyable and useful in a developmental way as it involved preparing and delivering lectures and group discussions.  President Jim presented her with her certificate of attendance. Ron Sutherland gave the club's vote of thanks.

The other speaker was Eilidh Page, also a High School senior pupil, who, with others, made a one-day visit  to London on a whistle-stop tour of the sights including the Houses of Parliament where they met the local MP Callum Kerr.  They also checked-out some of the other sights during a hectic day before travelling home.  She was accompanied by Pam Rigby, Youth Learning, Borders Regional Council and Rotary helped finance the trip.  Kerr Scott gave the vote of thanks.

Hawick had entries in the Rotary Young Artist competition and also supported the Silver Sunday event on Sunday afternoon in the Evergreen Hall.
