Tonight’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was a busy one.

During the first part of the evening, two sixth year pupils from Coltness High School, Sophie Aitken and Lee Houston, the candidates which the Club sponsored to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) week, reported back on their experiences on the course - held at the Abernethy Trust's Outdoor and Adventure Centre at Ardeonaig, on the banks of the river Tay. Their presentation took the form of Past President Ian Carrol, who has been involved with RYLA for over 20 years, hosting a question and answer session, and, their responses clearly emphasised that each candidate thoroughly enjoyed their experiences and benefitted greatly from their involvement.

The winners of our annual Inter-School Golf Competition, four pupils from Our Lady’s High School, Scott Rankine, Grant Mackin, Daniel Macleod and John Galloway were presented with the Douglas Clementson Golf Trophy and individual medals by President James Gibbons.

At the end of the meeting President James made a special presentation to Past President Ian Carrol for his outstanding contribution to Rotary through his direct involvement with Youth services and Rotary Youth Leadership Award, in particular. James said that Ian exemplified the rotary motto of "Service above Self" and concluded by presenting Ian with Rotary’s highest award the Paul Harris Fellowship.
