Everything you ever wanted to know about fracking.
That was the subject of a talk by John Hunter, the Wells Team Leader from INEOS
INEOS is a huge worldwide chemical company employing some 17000 staff at 65 sites in 16 countries. They have 6 sites in the UK of which Grangemouth is the main one.
Around 10000 jobs, direct and indirect are supported.
At the moment Grangemouth process shale gas shipped from the US but hopefully will ultimately be locally sourced. John said the shale oil and gas was a national asset and huge opportunity with the potential for vast quantities of gas and oil.
INEOS have the experience and engineering excellence in the chemical and refining industry and their fracking will be highly regulated by at least 6 separate UK agencies..
Trusted independent bodies have concluded that shale and gas development is safe.
John described in highly technical terms the methods of drilling and extraction. He concluded by saying that the revenues would greatly benefit the country and that 6% of that revenues going directly to that local communities.
A wide ranging question and answer session followed
