Our speaker was Alistair Paisley who hailed from the West but has been a local resident for many years serving on the City Council till recently. In business he had a marketing career.
He related that after National service in the RAF (he was called up the day before the Suez crisis which lasted three days) he worked for a Tobacco giant. When given the chance of redundancy and retirement just after he was 50, he set up his own business providing stationery.
He was asked to stand for Council and served on it for many years in opposition but never in power. He was mainly interested in urban regeneration. He eventually became a Baillie when that role was brought back. He related a number of amusing anecdotes about his Council days. He also mentioned the Edinburgh trams highlighting some of the problems.
The Vote of thanks was given by Angus Macphie.
