Business & Fellowship

North Wales oldest Rotary Club Rhyl and its neighbouring daughter club St Asaph are planning to develop closer links in a move they believe will prove of mutual benefit. Secretary Gordon Marshall told a business and fellowship meeting of the Rhyl club at Faenol Fawr, that he had received an invitation from St Asaph club suggesting incorporating joint meetings between them, starting in the new year. “The idea is that we could programme in an agreed number of meetings, alternating the venues and so inject fresh interest and fellowship for both our clubs,” he explained. After a number of members had expressed warm support for the idea, which they felt would not only strengthen the position of the two clubs but also serve to reinforce and secure the presence of Rotary in the locality, it was agreed that the suggestion should be positively taken forward. Meanwhile, the two clubs will be working in tandem when Rhyl members man a stand in support of the St Asaph club’s annual Country Fair being staged at the usual venue at Llannerch, near Tweedmill, this coming Sunday August 21. This popular event will run from 10am to 4pm and is set to again prove a considerable attraction in support of charitable and worthy causes. Treasurer John Williams reported that the Rhyl club had raised more than £4,200 from its numerous fund-raising activities during the past year, of which a generous contribution of over £1,000 had been donated by the trustees of the charity funding the annual Rhyl gentlemen’s annual holiday. Secretary Gordon Marshall reminded members of the important Rotary District 1180 conference being held on the Wirral on October 29 and appealed for support for what promised to be a most enjoyable and beneficial occasion, and also gave notice of the annual Rotary GB&I national conference to be staged in Manchester next April, which he hoped too would receive strong backing. Programme secretary Keith Roberts announced that last year’s High Sheriff of Clwyd David Meredith-Jones of Denbigh would be the special guest speaker at an open meeting at Faenol Fawr on Tuesday August 30 to which all members, partners and friends were cordially invited.
