President Bill Jones welcomed 15 other members who had survived the convoy system on the Rhu village main road, and confirmed tthat the club would not meet on Tuesdays December 27 and January 3.
Derek Hall spoke about Mill owner Robert Owen, who was born in Wales, made his fortune in England, but is most associated with New Lanark where he bought the cotton mill in 1799. He was very concerned about workers rights, made the mill area more or less a self-contained village, and opened the world's first infants school.
He moved to America where he set up two model villages, but they were unsuccessful and he lost most of his fortune. He died at the age of 87.
Derek, who recommended that members visit New Lanark, was thanked for a very interesting talk by Ron Dunachie.
The weekly raffle for a whisky miniature was won by Dave Campbell.
