In an unusual illustrated presentation which he entitled "A Marvellous Contraption", Bob Clarke an engineer, historian and archaeologist talked to the Club at its lunchtime meeting on the 15th March about Boscombe Down and a Second World War machine devised there to aid safety of air crew.
The session introduced research into a little known but important aspect of aircrew safety with a high velocity wind machine which delivered draughts in excess of 200 miles per hour enabling crew to be blown clear in the event of damage to aircraft by enemy strike.'What We Do' Main Pages:
