The Rotary Club of Rhyl will continue to be very much open for business as usual, despite the decision to switch from its traditional weekly meetings to twice-monthly with immediate effect, incoming President Rod Brocklehurst told a packed gathering of members and partners at his formal installation at Faenol Fawr. Pledging to observe the new global motto adopted by Rotary International of “Rotary Serving Humanity”, the President said he hoped this experimental change in frequency of meetings would prove successful as the long-established club entered its 91st year. Announcing that one of his nominated charities during his new term would be ‘Hope & Homes for Children,’ he said he regarded it as an honour to occupy the office of President for a second time, having previously served in 2002 and was confident that all his co-officers would look to work with a renewed sense of vigour to meet the challenges that lie ahead. Congratulating out-going President Mike Parry on the way he had led the club in its special 90th anniversary year, President Rod, a former head teacher at Rhyl High School, expressed both his appreciation and confidence in his team of treasurer John Williams, secretary Gordon Marshall, chairmen Mike Howarth, Hari Hughes, John Hickerton, Gareth Davies and honorary auditor David Thomas to help deliver a positive programme of activities to support a wide range of worthy local community, national and international charities and good causes alongside a strong social and vocational agenda. “Membership recruitment will remain a particular focus as well as maintaining our vital support for Rotary’s final push to eliminate polio from the face of the earth, which I hope will be treated especially generously,” he added. “All in all, I hope that Rotary continues to fulfil its invaluable role and that everyone who is involved will find real enjoyment in taking part.” Earlier, retiring President Mike Parry voiced his warm thanks to all members for their support before being presented with his past President’s badge by his successor, who also invested the new senior vice-President Keith Roberts and junior vice-President John Hickerton with their badges of office. The next meeting of the club will be at Faenol Fawr at 6-15pm on Tuesday July 12.
