District Young Photographer of the Year 2016/17

This years theme is called Reflection.

District 1190 Young Photographer 2016/17

This last year saw some incredible entries from the Rotary Clubs of Fleetwood, Grange-over-Sands, Church and Oswaldtwistle, Keswick, Carlisle and Blackburn.

This year’s theme is titled “Reflection” Try to thing outside the box and come up with something original. The title immediately lends itself to water or glass and whilst there is nothing wrong with that use your imagination to think of other avenues. For example, reflection can also be used as a term to describe serious thought or consideration of contemplation and meditation.

As a professional advertising photographer some years back if I struggled with a brief I would look up a Rogers Thesaurus to break down meanings and come up with new descriptive’s that would often spark thought and lead me to new avenues I had not previously thought of. Try it, its also a great way of learning new and fancy words. Your English teacher will love you!

When you submit your photographs some of you last year went to the very real trouble of mounting them with cardboard surrounds.  There is no need to do this.  It is the photographs that are being judged not the surrounds. Also some entries were sent in without digital copies on a CD. This does create problems.  I am more than happy for you to send your applications forms and photographs in electronically but the photographs must be original quality which usually means a file size for each picture of at least 6MB.

Finally, may I wish you all the very best of luck and happy snapping!

Please send your entries to myself at Badgers Croft, Blackpool Road, Newton-with-Scales, Preston, PR4 3RE or electronically to badgerscroft@me.com
