Annual Donations Year Ending June 2016

ANNUAL DONATIONS YEAR ENDING JUNE 2016

On Monday 13th June President Bernard welcomed visitors from 3 of the 13 local and National charities The Club supported during the current Rotary year.  Between them representatives of The Oldham Royal Hospital Bereavement Room, Dr. Kershaws Hospice and Oldham Mountain Rescue received cheques totaling £2,000.

After a meal they were invited to give updates on the latest news from their organisation.

SUE BRIERLEY, Bereavement Specialist Midwife, explained how the death of a baby around the time of birth can be devastating for parents and their families.  The care that parents receive cannot reduce their grief.  However, poor care can add to that grief.  It is important that all policies and arrangements are designed to ensure they receive the best possible care.  The Staff Member should also be key to ensure after care is also available, even when they are discharged fro hospital.

Sue has been given a private room in the delivery area were Mum and Dad can spend time with their infant.  It will have a bed, brewing facilities, a small table.  This will help to overcome their grief.

Our donation will provide a reclining chair.

LISA PEARSON, reported on the latest initiative at Dr. Kershaws Hospice.  The Hospice at Home service provides patients and their families with the appropriate level required to ensure that the patient has the support they need to remain in their own home and prevent any unnecessary admissions to hospital.  it's designed to give 24/7 hospice care within their own home.

The timing, length and frequency of visits are flexible, determined by the needs of the individual patient.  This Hospital at Home service works alongside, and in addition to any services provided by the community nursing team.

It has now been operating for 2 months and already 700 people have been helped.

PETER HYDE, a regular attendee at this event.  Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was formed in 1964, just 1 of around 53 teams providing a search and rescue service.

After the teams experiences during last years Lake District Floods, it became obvious that additional training was needed, this has now been completed, and put to use.

On the 11th of June the team received another request to assist in a joint response, alongside the full time emergency services, at the flooding in Stockport.  The Old team provided control support before filling and distributing hundreds of sand bags.  They were called down at 01.00hrs.

Total monies distributed  amount to £6,000.  Amongst other recipients were Austerlands Cricket Club, British Heart Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis, Foxdenton School Hydrotherapy Pool, The mayor of Oldham Appeal, and Saddleworth Tennis Club.

Finally, President Bernard acknowledge the generosity of the Oldham public, without their help and commitment none of this would be possible.
