Business and Fellowship

A group of elderly gentlemen from the Rhyl area will next week be enjoying a week’s free holiday in Torquay, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Rhyl, members were told at a business and fellowship meeting at Faenol Fawr. Funded by a long-standing local charity, this annual holiday has become a regular feature on the club’s calendar with the popular resort this year’s chosen destination for the long and interesting coach trip to the lovely Devon coast. Organiser Hari Hughes, chairman of the club’s Community Service committee, said the returning participants would be met off the coach on their arrival back by volunteer club members who would be waiting in cars to drive them safely, hopefully home feeling all the better for their summer break. This event comes hot on the heels of the Rotary club’s other major outing and free treat - the elderly persons’ mystery coach ride, followed by afternoon tea and cakes at St Ann’s church room, which took place last weekend. A total of 34 senior citizens had booked up for this eagerly-awaited event and continuing this community theme, the club has unanimously voted to donate a sum of £200 from its charitable account to help purchase an urgently-required life-saving defibrillator for use at the town’s Ysgol Emmanuel where it would remain housed. Meanwhile, Social Secretary and past President Mike Howarth, served advanced notice of a fascinating schedule of events he is presently finalising for the coming year. Promising that full details would be announced in the next few weeks, he said lots of events for members and families to enjoy were being lined up ready for what he said would be a full and exciting year to look forward to.
