Representatives of The Rotary Club of Kilrymont St Andrews this week travelled to Perth Airport, Scone, to deliver a donation to the Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. President Ewen Allan and President Elect John Spittal presented a cheque for £500 to the organisation, which is funded totally by donations. On accepting the cheque, SCAA Regional Fundraiser Helen MacGregor said the donation was invaluable, as the Charity responded to emergency calls on average at least once every day. The event completes a week in which a total of £5500 was donated by the Club to a wide variety of local and regional charities. These included Rymonth House St Andrews; Dundee Association for Mental Health; Teenage Cancer Trust (a UK-wide charity); Families First St Andrews; Friends of Craigtoun Park; St Andrews Brownies; Scorpions Roller Hockey; Cosmos After School Club; Fife Deaf Children’s Society; St Andrews Cubs and Scouts; and St Andrews Colts. At this week’s Club meeting it was also announced that Kilrymont Rotary will sponsor this year’s Cosmos Community Centre Sandcastle Competition, which takes place on St Andrews West Sands on the Friday of each week during the school summer holidays, beginning on July 7. President Elect John Spittal then presented his vision for the coming year. His theme for 2017-2018 is “Rotary Making a Difference”. He outlined his plans to strengthen and support club membership, improve humanitarian service, identify and support new charities and environmental projects, and widen the club’s stated aims of developing and supporting events for youths in the area. In response, visiting District Assistant Governor Elect John Holme, from The Rotary Club of Auchterarder, expressed his delight that Kilrymont were particularly keen on youth projects, which he believes makes Rotary such a worthwhile organisation. John also stated he was impressed by the extremely happy balance the Kilrymont Club has established between fund-raising and fellowship. John Spittal thanked John Holme for his attendance and kind words.
