The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District recently netted just over £1,400 in a charity fete and fun-filled alternative games held recently in Thornhill. The event was organised by Rotarians Stewart Lee and Gavin Kilgour. As well as the usual bottle stalls, tombola, burger stall etc., there was an opportunity for teams to participate in something just a bit different - toy tractor pulling, hand-ball using eggs, tossing the wellie, gird ‘n’ cleet and so on.
New to the programme this year was Gavin Kilgour’s very popular crockery smashing stall. Afternoon tea was in the hands of an enthusiastic young team from the local Young Farmers club. Also dropping were the Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes team demonstrating the life-saving service they provide locally.
The proceeds of the event had been earmarked for International projects managed by Rotary.
Rotarian Stewart Lee, Convenor of the club International Committee said ‘It was a great effort by Rotarians, our friends and colleagues from other local organisations. Despite the forecast mixture of sunshine and showers, we had a very positive feedback from those who braved the uncertain weather. I am most grateful to all those who entered into the spirit of the afternoon’.
