Frequency of future meetings

After more than 90 years of weekly meetings, the Rotary Club of Rhyl is to make the radical change to a fortnightly programme from next month, members were told at a general meeting at Faenol Fawr. Secretary Gordon Marshall said this was the decision the club had taken in response to the challenging call to embrace innovation and flexibility in seeking to reinforce and safeguard Rotary’s future. From July 1 the old sequence of weekly gatherings would be changed to a programme of two meetings per month, following the installation of incoming President Rod Brocklehurst. The objective behind this major switch was aimed at enhancing the appeal of Rotary to both existing and new younger members and to help redress the general decline in vital recruitment. Details of the change would be agreed before the programme was set in place but the principle was not in doubt, he stressed. The element of flexibility to provide for a wide range of activities, visiting speakers and social and charitable events would remain important components of the new structure. President Mike Parry, welcoming the opportunities for growth and consolidation that this format would open up, said: “We have recognized the call for a radical re-think and I hope as we look to the future that all members will now get behind the club and enthusiastically help contribute to its beneficial potential.” Earlier secretary Gordon Marshall gave a presentation on the widening scope of the new club and district web sites and illustrated a number of ways of acquiring and promoting quicker and more extensive communication and information. After dealing with a number of probing questions, he asked members to embrace this huge field of electronic opportunity and promised he would hold an up-date on this initial introductory outline in a few months time. The secretary was warmly thanked for his challenging presentation by President Mike Parry who urged all committee chairs to ensure they submitted their annual reports in good time for the visit of the incoming District Governing to Rhyl’s important Club Assembly meeting on June 14.
