Rotary Young Writers Competition 2016

The results of the Rotary Young Writers competition 2016 in St Andrews

The Rotary Club of St Andrews, working with the Kilrymont Rotary Cub, has organized the Young Writers Competition for 2016.

This Competition, open this year to the Junior Age Group (7 – 10 years), invited pupils in local schools to produce a story of up to 500 words entitled “Our World Is Beautiful”.

Three schools participated at this local level – Canongate Primary School, Lawhead Primary School and St Leonard’s Junior School.

As only two entries were permitted to be sent forward to the District Level, the judges had the very difficult task of selection. The standard of work from such a young age group was extremely impressive.

The two entries which  were sent forward to the next stage of the competition were submitted by Miss Josie Laland-Brown (Lawhead PS) and Miss Lilian Driscoll (St Leonard’s JS).  Miss Laland-Brown, from Lawhead Primary School,  subsequently  won second place in the District Level of this competition - Junior Section.

Presentations of book tokens to the two local winners and of certificates to all the participants were made by the Rotary Clubs of St Andrews at school assemblies
