ROTARY CLUB OF RHYL The recent Roll out the Barrel charity event from Rhyl to Prestatyn and back to mark Rotary International Awareness Day, has now raised nearly £350, club treasurer John Williams informed members at the annual meeting at Faenol Fawr. President Mike Parry and Senior Vice-President Rod Brocklehurst braved torrential rain and fierce winds to complete the 10-mile round trip to earn sponsorship donations in support of Rotary’s mission to help provide 1 million gallons of fresh water to desolate parts of Africa and other stricken regions of the world. Both were warmly thanked for their fine efforts, while members were reminded by Past President Keith Roberts to ensure their full backing for the forthcoming popular Plant Sale, also in aid of charity, being staged at Trefnant Village Hall on Saturday May 7. Meanwhile, the annual meeting unanimously endorsed the nomination of Rod Brocklehurst as President-elect for the next Rotary year starting on June 28, together with the appointments of John Williams (Treasurer), David Thomas (Hon.Auditor), Gareth Wynne Jones (Vocational Chairman), Keith Roberts (Programme Secretary), Mike Parry (Bulletin Editor), Gareth Davies (Youth Service Chairman), and Michael McEvoy (Press & Publicity Officer). The meeting also re-elected the Bishop of St Asaph, Rt Rev.Dr Gregory Cameron and former treasurer Peter Wistow, as Honorary Members. Events Organiser and Past President Mike Howarth announced that a twenty-strong contingent from the club would again be attending this year’s Bangor-on-Dee Race meeting, taking place next Saturday April 16, followed by an evening meal.
