Fri, Mar 11th 2016 at 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Nine very tall tales will be told by tale tellers from across the North East and Cumbria to a sold out audience of 120 people at a Tall Tales evening in the Great Hall of Hexham Abbey this coming Friday, March 11th.

The evening is organised by the Hexham Rotary Club in aid of the Rotary Polio eradication charity. It will be introduced by Harry Pearson, writer and journalist. The panel of experienced judges who will assess the tales both for their quality of the writing and the way they are told are:

- Colin Briggs BBC Look North presenter

- David Almond Multi award winning NE author of Skellig, The Savage, Ella Grey and many other novels, stories and plays

- Brian Tilley Deputy Editor of the Hexham Courant

Their decisions will be final and beyond challenge.

Bob Hull, organiser of the event for the Hexham Rotary Club said today:

On 11 March the Great Hall of Hexham Abbey will see hot air by the cloud full emerging as nine competitors from across the region compete for the title of Tynedale Tall Tales champion. An audience of 120 will cheer on the tale tellers as they recount their original stories which have to be humorous, exaggerated and make believe. They can be true or a lie. This ambitious event will put Hexham well and truly on the story telling map at the same time raising a lot of funds for a polio eradication charity.”
