B & F meeting

Britain’s top Rotarian, the President of Rotary International of Great Britain and Ireland, will be among the prominent VIPs attending this year’s 90th anniversary of the founding of the Rhyl club, members were told at a business and fellowship meeting at Faenol Fawr. Club President Mike Parry confirmed that both the national President and the 1180 District Governor had accepted invitations to attend this historic celebration of the creation of the oldest Rotary Club in North Wales, taking place at Faenol Fawr on Friday May 6. A meeting of senior organisers of this special Charter Night dinner would be meeting shortly to finalise the arrangements, he added, in anticipation of a large turn-out for what promised to be a memorable occasion. Meanwhile, the Rhyl club is to provide a team of volunteers to help support a series of public collections to aid the invaluable work of the Marie Curie cancer charity later this month. Members will take shifts at the Matalan store collection in Rhyl on Saturday February 27, a week after staging the club’s own 10 mile sponsored charity Barrel Roll walk to Prestatyn and back to mark Rotary Awareness Day. The President urged all members to turn out in force to support both these deserving causes and to secure individual sponsorship to help boost the income from the Barrel Roll event. Social Secretary Mike Howarth announced that another popular repeat visit to Llandrillo College for a dinner prepared by talented students from the catering department was planned for March 9, followed by a return trip to Bangor-on-Dee Races on April 16, as well as a 4 mile long walk along the picturesque canal path at Llangollen in June. Vice-President Keith Roberts, also reported that he intends to once again stage a Plant Sale, open to the public, later in the year and will provide more details in ample time to ensure its predicted success.
