The Chairman of Hawick Flood Group Provost Stuart Marshall and Andy Lewis attended last week's meeting of the Rotary Club to accept a cheque from the President Mairhi Trickett from Rotary District 1020 for £3,800.00 for the Group's funds. The windfall will go towards stocking the new port-a-cabin with essentials. Stuart thanked Rotary and made a suitable reply.
A letter of resignation from the club from Past President and Paul Harris Fellow Archie Purves was read out as he has moved to Haddington to be nearer his family. He has been a member since 1968.
The speaker was club member Ron Sutherland who gave an excellent illustrated talk on a visit to Peru with his wife Pat when they explored the Inca site of Machu Picchu in the high Andes. He covered all aspects of the trip from seeing the booby birds off the coast to a flight to see the Nazca lines and Machu Picchu itself which involved a considerable amount of hiking. He showed slides of the profundity of flora especially orchids and hibiscus which grow wild. The President thanked Ron for a superb talk.
