Youth Speaks 2018

Recently students from St Ives Academy were invited by The Rotary Club of St Ives to participate in the Rotary GB&I Youth Speaks Competition.  This is a prestigious competition which asks a lot of the students  involved.  Members of the Rotary Club of St Ives were delighted by the thought-provoking topics selected by the teams and the enthusiasm with which they were presented. They balanced   serious moments with touches of humour and kept their audiences interest throughout. The Judges had a difficult time selecting the Winner as there were only a few marks between the teams but, after a lot of thought, they selected the team whose chosen topic was “The Shame of Stereotypes in our World today”

Picture 1   The Winning Team  L-R  Isabelle Fellows Barnett (Speaker)  Evie Luckhurst (Chairman) and Farah Searle (Vote of Thanks) are seen giving their presentation.

Picture 2   The Runners Up as they present their topic “The Burden of Beauty” with Ruby Gibson (speaker),  Elizabeth Berg (Chairperson) and Niamh Searle (Vote of Thanks).

Joan Symons, President of The Rotary Club of St Ives, presented the teams with their Certificates and Prizes. She congratulated them on their hard work and wished the winners good luck as they prepare for the Area stage of the Competition to be held at Pool Academy on Friday 9th February at 4pm.

Picture 3 The group picture shows the teams together with the  Rotary members who worked so hard to ensure the event was a success.  Congratulations to everyone.
