Happy New Year to everyone!
Christmas was a success with all the areas being covered by the sleigh tour with moderately favourable weather. The Kids Christmas Party to which over seventy children participated went really well and is being booked for next year. Collections at Tesco were a success as were thh Santa deliveries on Christmas day.
Committees met on the first Tuesday 5th January to formulate plans for this coming year.
On Tuesday 12th Alistair's mum, Christine, a former nurse gave an insight into chronic renal failure. A donation to the Dorset Kidney Fund is being made. It was a pleasure to welcome Rose Sherratt into the club. She is a former member of Harbourside and wish her all the best as a member of Portland Rotary. Steve started the cushion auction to ease the pressure on the hard seats and raised £10.
Stan and Sarah held a soup supper and it was a really well turned out event. Well done Stan for raising £200 in aid of the Anne-Marie Jarvis Mistletoe Treatment Fund
At the business meeting donations were made to the Dorset Kidney Fund and also to the relief fund for the flooding in the north of the country.
Saturday 23rd Burns Night organised by Janet Sarah Carolyn and Gillian. Well done to the team for an excellent evening. And whata result £1180 was raised!
Tuesday 25th was an eye witness account of the Japanese surrender by Frank Hamblin. A really interesting talk about life in the Navy but also witnessing both the effects of the Hiroshima bomb and the signing of the Japanese surrender.
