B & F 5th. January 2016

A donation of £500 is to be sent immediately from the club’s charity fund to swell Rotary’s country-wide appeal to provide vital aid to those hit by devastating funds in all parts of the UK. Treasurer John Williams told a business and fellowship meeting at Faenol Fawr that he had received a request from District 1180 inviting Rhyl to join with clubs throughout Rotary GB&I by making a donation and his proposal to send £500 without delay was given instant backing. With many thousands of families having experienced crippling damage to homes and properties particularly in Cumbria and Yorkshire as well as in other stricken parts of England, Scotland and Wales, he said Rhyl’s contribution would undoubtedly be put to urgently-needed use. “Responding without delay will again help prove the old saying that he who gives early, gives twice,” he added. Earlier President Mike Parry announced that the planned major charitable fund-raising Bike Ride would take place on Saturday June 18 on the Marsh Road Tracks. Further details would be finalized over the coming months with the objective of ensuring a big turn-out of cyclists of all ages and abilities, supported by numerous large and small sponsors, to boost the profits. Proceeds from this special event would go to supporting Prostate Cancer Cymru in their vital work to combat what is the second biggest killer in Britain. Meanwhile, the popular annual Elderly Persons Outing, including a mystery coach and afternoon tea and entertainment, is again to be organized by the club on Sunday June 12, Community Service chairman Hari Hughes announced. Before then, a trip for members, wives and friends to the annual Bangor-on-Dee Races is being arranged for Saturday April 16, Social Secretary Mike Howarth revealed along with several other events currently on the drawing board.
