‘Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, .....O what a glorious sight, warm-reekin’, rich!’ these words could also describe the faces of the enraptured audience at the Burns’ Supper and were uttered by Greig Hill, the mastermind of another enjoyable club event. Moreover, we have a resource of huge talent in our ranks. Donald and Margaret piped in the haggis (see photo) to the wooden carved dining hall in Dunfermline Golf Club. Greig wielded a massive glinting steel cleaver whilst addressing the haggis - ‘An’ cut you up wi’ ready slight, trenching your gushing entrails bright, like onie ditch’. Osman the new caterer at the Golf Club clearly made culinary efforts to please, with chicken Balmoral and haggis. However, Anne (Diack) had been assigned a brand new song to perform, just on the way down Townhill Road to the event and was pumping adrenalin, with a dry mouth unable to swallow food !! Her rendition of ‘Star O Rabbie Burns’ was soulful and rousing, with the audience joining. The ‘Immortal Memory’ featured Jim Mein, who had flown into Edinburgh airport on a delayed snow bound flight from New York that morning. Although exhausted, he spoke with passion and deserves a hearty donation to his charity, from our club. Perhaps the most remarkable performance was Tom Pettigrew`s flowing rendition of ‘Tam o’ Shanter’, memorised without any notes and poignantly dedicated to Ian Borland who had done the same in 2015. Our talent scouts have made an exciting discovery in Mark and Fiona Todd who ‘traded verbal blows’ in hilarious, witty versions of ‘Toast to the Lassies’ and the reply. The band (Robert, Ewan and Alex) have been variously named ‘nae direction’, ‘a’ and e’ band’ etc. struck up the community singing of ‘Ae Fond Kiss’, ‘Scots Wa Hae’ etc... The final song ‘Auld Lang Syne was sung with linked hands and rounded off a fun evening which bonds our club closer and bodes well for expressing our individual talents whilst working to forward the Rotary goals in 2016.
A huge thanks and congratulations is conveyed by Alex, our President, to all involved.
