Blood Pressure Checks in Bexhill

A quarter of those people who had their blood pressure checked by the St John’s Ambulance brigade in Bexhill were recommended to seek further advice and checks. Four who were identified as needing urgent follow up action had previously been unaware of any problem.

The Rotary Club of Senlac organised a free “Know your Blood Pressure” event for the public in Bexhill on 7 November and invited passers-by to have an immediate check. Over seventy people took the opportunity. Many people are unaware of their own blood pressure and the potential effect of high blood pressure which can lead to a stroke. Rotary work in conjunction with The Stroke Association to provide these sessions which raise awareness of the problems of high blood pressure and give the opportunity for people to have their blood pressure checked. The Rotary Club of Senlac organise two sessions locally every year. The Club would like to thank the St John’s Ambulance Brigade for undertaking the checks and Barraclough and Stiles for providing the accommodation.

High blood pressure can affect people of all ages, not just the elderly, and over 150,000 people a year in the UK suffer a stroke. If you are concerned about your blood pressure or would like it checked you should seek medical advice or assistance. For further information about strokes you can visit the Stroke Association’s website at www.stroke.org.uk.
