President Elect Graham Leith chaired a meeting of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry in the Hawes Inn on Thursday 31st March. The speaker was club member David Hull whose theme was an imaginative project to benefit disadvantaged young people in the Wester Hailes area of Edinburgh. Organised by David and funded by his previous club in Corstorphine together with Cash for Kids and other donors, the scheme entailed taking twelve young members of the Big Project youth club and the Big Noise choir to Belfast for a day. The Rotary Club of Belfast made contact with similar youth groups who hosted the visitors during their stay. As many of the youngsters had never been out of Edinburgh far less in an aeroplane, the trip was a marvellous experience as was clear from the accompanying video. In summing up the project, David said the day was one of the most rewarding of his life. New friendships were made, the young people behave very well and had a stimulating experience they would remember for many years. In proposing the vote of thanks, Rotarian Stuart Ridge said David's presentation showed what could be achieved by a little ingenuity and how Rotary clubs could co-operate to great effect.

In other business, President Elect Graham thanked Queensferry Guild for £40 which they donated to the Kenya fund when he spoke to them about last year's visit to the school and orphanage near Nairobi. Gerald Smith of the International Committee said  the money would be added to the club's latest donation to the Kenya Fund which now stood at £705.
