VISIT TO WALES RUGBY UNION GROUP, ,

On Tuesday, 17th November, 17 Denbigh Rotarians plus 1 Guest braved Hurricane Barney to take a look at the WRU Facilities at the North Wales Headquarters.

As we arrived, we had to brave the rain that was coming sideways at us. Once inside we were met by Will Morcome, general manager.   He introduced us to Roland Schwarz, 1st team Manager.  They gave us a quick tour of the facilities, taking a look at the state of the art Gym and indoor training pitches.

Following that we went over to one of the executive boxes where we were given an insight into the infrastructure and asperations of the club.

We were introduced to Phil Davies, Head Coach who explained that the clubs target was to get into the top tier of (Premiership). The average age of the senior squad is 21. This augers well for the future of the club.

A squad consists of 32 players, 30 of which must be Welsh. They train 3 times a week for home matches and twice weekly when they are playing away.  To support recruitment, the WRU now have 11 Schools in with specially appointed HUB officers.

At the end of the visit, Brian gave the vote of thanks.

We then made our way to Bryn Williams new Restaurant on the seafront.  Bryn is an old Denbigh Boy with a very successful restaurant, Odettes,  in Primrose Hill, . I think a few of us hoped that Bryn might put in an appearance, but it was not to be!

It appears that the majority ordered Fish Pie, whilst the remainder went for lamb.

President John thanked Walter for organizing the evening and everyone who attended for braving the elements…
