Fund raising event for the John O'Gaunt School

Hungerford’s Antique Experience and Pledge Auction, held on 14th November was a fantastic success and is expected to raise £2,000.00

The event was organized by Myles Young and his Community Services Committee with lots of help from the John O’Gaunt P.S.A. who provided food and drink and ran the raffle with much enthusiasm .

The experts were kept very busy trying to shed light onto the origins of some of the objects brought in for assessment.

Annabel King of Roger King Antiques gave her expert advice on furniture and paintings. George Styles from Styles Silver was on hand to talk about silver objects.Julian Rota from Antiquarian Booksellers Bertram Rota shared his knowledge of books and even spotted one worth £1,600. James Podger The Managing Director of Great Grooms Antiques spoke eloquently about many objects including Ivory and Maiolica. Stewart Hofgartner from Below Stairs Antiques who appears regularly on Dickinson's Real Deal spoke on everything from bronze hats to 18th Century medical instruments.

Stewart also acted as the auctioneer for the pledge auction. Which included dinner for two at the Tally Ho. A Football shirt from Charlie Austin. A Signed Ollie Murs  program. A chance to drive High Performance Cars. A fire engine to visit your party. A magnum of Champagne. A days fishing on the Kennet and a Vintage Mercedes Sports Car for the day.
Noisy bidding from all quarters ensured a good profit for the fund.
The evening was brought to a close by Rotary President Bruce who is going to have a busy few weeks having bid on everything from a football shirt to a fire engine.

All the proceeds will go towards the John O’ Gaunt Library appeal.
