The Gavel

.

Brora Golf Club was bathed in autumn sunshine when the Wick and Thurso clubs came over the Ord to do battle with Tain, Dingwall and East Sutherland Rotary clubs in the annual blood letting known across district 1010 as THE GAVEL!!

A wonderful day of Fellowship combined with a gritty determination (by some) not to win, saw dominoes dissappear into pint glasses and draughts vanish up sleeves.  The putting green did well to stay intack and the Jenga bricks could be seen flying across the room in frustration.  The Connect 4 frames were twisted and bent with the tension of play between trained athletes in peek condition (or they might have been if any
had turned up!!)  And finally the Rotary Quiz led to tears of joy or dissappointment when, despite getting more questions wrong than right, Thurso still managed to win the overal event and progress to the next round in St Andrews or Stirling or even Shetland??  The Thurso members will need a pasport to go so far from home!!

The idea of a Round Robin Gavel event was voted a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who having spent the Saturrday morning at play could still go to watch Brora Rangers or get home to watch Wales and most of the home Nations in the Rugby World Cup.  Some even magaged a round of golf on the superb Brora course.

Pictures show the Northern boys and girls at play in Brora.
