Englefield 10k

Sun, Aug 30th 2015 at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Our annual 10k attracts runners from near and far.

On 30th August Reading Abbey Rotary Club held its sixth successful Englfield 10k. The Bank Holiday weekend weather spared the runners and the course was dry throughout the run.  Over 300 runners registered for the event which is a significant increase from last year, with 56% more runners entering the race. This reflects the enthusiasm running on this terrain in such beautiful surroundings as the event becomes a regular date in the runner’s calendar.

For the sixth year the Benyon family have kindly allowed their stunning grounds to be used by the runners and their families. President Mike Baker said “I’d particularly like to thank the Benyon family who give us their unwavering support, making their estate available to us, thereby helping us to raise money for charity”.

The winner was Scott Kennedy at an incredibly quick 37.35 and the first female winner over the line was super speedy Sophie Crumly at 40.14.

By having such a significant increase in the number of runners registered has led to the event raising an estimated £3,000. This year the Reading Abbey Rotary Club is raising monies for Hope for Tomorrow. This inspiring charity helps cancer sufferers by bringing chemotherapy treatment to their homes preventing long journeys to hospital.

President Mike Baker said “I’d like to thank everyone who made the sixth Englefield run, jointly organised by the Reading Abbey Rotary Club and Tadley Runners, the largest and most successful in the history of the event”.

This year also saw the first family treasure hunt attracting around 20 families as they found clues in the beautiful surroundings.  Each clue led to a letter and the children putting together a word spelling lumberjack.  Participating families were awarded a treasure bag by the charity Hope for Tomorrow.

Mr Baker concluded by saying “Most of all I really want to thank all the competitors who took part. We home you enjoyed the tough course and the splendid surroundings offered by the estate and look forward to you supporting us in the future”
