The Club was addressed at this meeting by Mike Young and Jim Tolson of TALKING TANDEMS, a properly registered extremely worthwhile Charity.
Mike, the son of our ex member Ken, will be totally blind in a few years due to a progressive, untreatable disorder. He has summoned the courage and determination to promote tandem riding for blind people. Pilots, who have normal sight, are required to steer the bike and the club cycles at least once per month on a Sunday. The cyclists stop for lunch, hold social events and also travel the length of Britain on trips. This gives blind individuals a chance to exercise safely and enjoy social outings together, which would otherwise be difficult.
Any normal sighted person can help as a pilot, and learn tandem cycling by emailing info@talkingtandems.org
Mike is a determined and inspiring young man who is planning to cycle from John O’ Groats to Lands’ End. You can donate to his epic trip by clicking on this link https://www.justgiving.com/Tandem-End2End
The visitors at this meeting were Ann Mitchell, Asst. District Governor and her husband Harry.
