Charity Musical Evening at the Stables Theatre

Wed, Nov 25th 2015 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Local charities, Hastings Demelza group and Bexhill Homecall, are to benefit from a charity evening organised by the Rotary Club of Senlac which raised over £1000. A packed Stables theatre audience were treated to a medieval-style food buffet provided by the catering students at South Coast College followed by entertainment from the historical music group “Blast from the Past” returning for a second year. The three musicians who play over thirty instruments, some dating back to the 14th century, between them performed “A Brief History of Christmas” playing and singing songs which have been popular over the last 600 years. Have you heard of instruments such as the cittern, the shawm and rauschpfeife? Blast from the Past played them as well as the more well known modern instruments! The musicians devoted the second part of their performance to the telling of A Christmas Carol which had been adapted by group member, Chris Green, to include the spoken word as well as drama, music and song. Interspersed with their own special humour the group delighted their audience.

Organiser for Senlac Rotary, Peter Cocker, was exceedingly pleased with the evening’s events and the amount raised for charity. He has booked Blast from the Past to appear again next November at the Stables theatre. He wishes to thank all those people and local businesses including PCM Estate Agents, Sedlescombe Organic Winery, Carr Taylor Winery, Little Common Deli, Brickwall Hotel and Morrisons that gave their generous support by providing raffle prizes and other help to make the event such a success. Franklins Brewery Pebsham provided a pin of ale for auction.

Editor's note: a pin of ale equals 4.5 gallons!
