First round of this year's quiz versus Colwyn Bay at the Faenol Fawr, Bodelwyddan.

First round of the Rotary District quiz against Colwyn Bay. Rhyl R.C. are drawn at home and are hoping to emulate (or even better) last year when they progressed to the semi-final for the first time in their history. We lost to the eventual winners, Southport R.C.

RHYL DO IT AGAIN! Last year’s beaten finalists Rhyl got their bid for a repeat run off to a flying start with a convincing win over familiar opponents Colwyn Bay in their opening round match of the annual Rotary District 1180 inter-club quiz, at Faenol Fawr. Paired for the second consecutive time against their near-neighbours, hosts Rhyl recovered from a faltering start to build up a commanding lead with several rounds still remaining and eventually crossed the line emphatic winners by a decisive margin of 60 points to Colwyn Bay’s 47. Despite being without one of their key performers, Rhyl’s knowledgeable quartet of Rod Brocklehurst, Gareth Wynne Jones, Mike Howarth and team captain, club President Mike Parry, showed themselves to be a formidable combination and now await the second round draw to learn who their next challengers will be. Thanking Colwyn Bay for their sporting opposition, captain Mike Parry said they had thoroughly enjoyed this return encounter while opposite number Steve Welburn warmly congratulated Rhyl on what he considered to be a worthy win and wished them continued success in the competition.
